Our Worshipful Master welcomes you to the website of Rye Lodge 2272.Rye is a Freemasons Lodge within the Metropolitan Grand Lodge of London. On these pages you will find information about Freemasonry in general and this Lodge in particular. For too long we have been regarded by the world at large as a secret society of some sort and this site has been created in such a way as to be open and visible to the world. Rye was granted its Charter or Warrant of Constitution by the United Grand Lodge of England in 1888, has raised many thousands of pounds for charitable causes, both Masonic and non-Masonic. On any Masonic site you will see pages about charity and indeed it is a cornerstone of our order.

We would like to take a moment to dispel some myths about freemasonry.I know Freemasons do a lot for charity but how can I find out what Masons actually spend money on? We publish our accounts for everyone to see and these accounts surprise many people when they see that Freemasons actually donate more money to charity in the UK than any other organization except the National Lottery. Every year Masons donate a million pounds to the Royal College of Surgeons for the betterment of mankind. What do Freemasons really do? Everyone knows that Freemasons have ceremonies and a lot of mystery seems to surround these. What I can tell you is that our ceremonies are designed to demonstrate useful lessons in life. You will have noticed that Rye is proud that it supports various charities and indeed charity and helping others where possible form the cornerstone of Freemasonry. Every Lodge in the world disburses some money and time to helping those less fortunate than ourselves. Do you need to be a successful professional to become a Freemason?Absolutely not. The ranks of Freemasons are filled with people from every possible station in life. Any man who would like to become a better man and to help his fellow man where he can, should consider becoming a Freemason. How can someone become a Freemason?Through the ages the way of becoming a Freemason has changed like the wind. At one time you had to ask someone who was a Freemason. After the First World War, so many Freemasons had died in action that there would be signs hung outside pubs saying things like "Masons made Half a Crown." These days if you would like to know more about how to become a Freemason simply ask someone who is a Freemason to set the ball rolling. You will probably want to learn a lot more about Freemasons before confirming that you want to become a Freemason. Similarly the Lodge will want to learn more about you too, but sending an e-mail using the link below would be a good beginning. Is it more difficult to become a Freemason in London?To become a freemason in London is exactly the same in London as in Manchester or Dorset or anywhere else in England. All lodges and that includes our Rye Lodge are constantly on the lookout for good man who might to become Freemasons in London.
